WORKSHOPS
Thank you for submitting a workshop proposal to SIL100, the Centennial Congress of the International Society of Limnology (SIL), which will take place in Berlin, Germany, from Sunday, 7 August to Wednesday, 10 August 2022.
Notifications on workshop proposal acceptance will be sent in March, 2022
Deadline for participants to register for the workshops: 5 July 2022 at 23:59 H in Berlin (22:59 UTC)
WORKSHOPS CATEGORIES
Pre-congress training workshops are intended to communicate scientific skills of all sorts relating to limnology. They can take place on Sunday morning or on Saturday or Friday before the conference. The workshops will be online only and typically be scheduled for half a day or a full day. However, shorter workshops are also possible. Although we envision the workshops to be primarily conceived for and by early career researchers, most should be open to all congress participants.
Examples for inspiration are: Scientific Writing, Publishing Limnological Findings, The Changing Publication Landscape, Meet the Editor, Career Paths in Limnology, Meeting Senior Limnologists, The rLakeAnalyzer to Compute Lake Physical Features, Limnological Modelling, Spatial Freshwater Modelling, Big Data Processing in Limnology, Multivariate Statistics with R, Introduction to Bayesian Statistics, Applying Machine Learning in Limnology: A Primer, Data Analysis of Lake Satellite Imagery, Advances in Limnological Sensor Technology, Use of Stable Isotope Techniques in Limnology, Best Practice in Limnological eDNA Analyses, or Limnoinformatics. We would be delighted if any of these themes were proposed – or others that could be broader or narrower in scope.
Topical workshops can focus on any important topic in limnology. We invite both early career and senior researchers to propose a topical workshop. The format may be conventional or follow other specific methodologies (e.g. Open Space, World Café). Topical workshops can be held during the congress at the venue or use an online format. At least 1 to 1.5 hours slots in the evening or late afternoon will be reserved during the congress. The chairs of the SIL Working Groups are specifically invited to express their interest in organizing a meeting of their working group in this format.
Society interaction workshops encourage the exchange among researchers and between researchers and practioners involved in water issues. Like for the topical workshops, the format may be conventional or follow other methodologies. They typically last for 1–1.5 hours but could be longer in the case of virtual pre-congress workshops. We welcome the involvement of stakeholders outside of academia.
Potential topics for your inspiration include Stakeholder Involvement in River Restoration, Citizen Science in Limnological Research, Women in Limnology, Voicing Scientific Concerns to the Public, Media Training, Implementing Open Science. Some of these topics overlap with training workshops. Regional meetings may also be considered. Examples are Insights into Limnological Issues in Mediterranean Regions, Deserts, High Mountains or Tropical Rain Forests. Experiences in particular world regions such as south-east Asia, the Mekong, sub-Saharan Africa, the Andes, Latin America, or the Berlin area, might also be shared.
